(FLOG DAY 2). The Simple Joys of putting stuff in Vending Machines and Drinking Stuff in Atriums.

I'm visiting my good mate Kiran from yesterday (Wednesday) until Friday (the morrow). I stayed in the newly moved in house of Kiran who lives in Derby. We spent the night talking, drinking cheap wine, talking about the fantastic subjects we both have an interest in and acting like bohemians and shizz.
I got up in the morning and spent the day within the Derby City Centre. Dear God I missed the quaint smallness of Derby, like a smaller version of beloved Leicester. The market place is fantastic, simple yet homely (yet again a small version of Leicester and Leiceseter market).
I headed back to Kiran's house with Kiran.

The visit so far has reminded me how much I love Derby. I even went into the university and the familiar joy of putting change in a vending machine or messing about in the atrium was really nice and slightly comforting. Experiencing something that you have not experienced for a few months gives you a unique warm, welcoming feeling.

In other news I want to try my chances on the drums. My mate Munchy (who you may know from previous posts) has a drum kit that he has stored in a barn next to his house. He is going to take it out soon and when he does... by heck... there will be a' banging like the trumpets on judgement day.
I also want to play Munchy's Alison (Alison is his guitar). Munchy can play Lissie with my permission as well (Lissie is my bass)... innuendo... but that is what they are seriously called. Munchy's guitar is named after Alison Mosshart and my bass is named after Lissie Maurus.

Excellent news came my way today also. There is a film that I feel excited about. The Woman in Black is coming out!
"So what Ed."
What do you mean so what? It's a production by the world famous Hammer Horror people... you know, Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. Aww yeahh!

(FLOG DAY 1.) The Book That Sounded Like a Tap. A Real Life Story of My Life That May Not Have Happened if I Hadn't Had Too Much Tea.

Now here is a tale that happened to me yesterday afternoon.

I was alone in the house and I was working on the laptop. I decided that it was time for a break so I went downstairs to make a tea (if you didn't already know, many people tend to get up and make a tea as an excuse to get out of doing work for a few minutes).
I picked up a big mug. It is a big mug, about three times bigger than the others... quite a novelty mug you might say. I wanted to have loads of tea for the sake of anti- tiredness and because I like tea. I made the tea but I put two bags into the mug and left them in until the tea was absolutely stewed. I took the tea up and drank it. I then went downstairs again to make another big, stewed tea with two tea bags and before I knew it I had had three of the things within an hour.

By this time it was about lunchtime (in my eyes anyway). I felt peckish so I grabbed my book and went downstairs, made a sandwich and then sat down on the sofa for a good half hour of reading (oh and I made another of those big, stewy teas to compliment the sandwich).

This is the strange part of the story. So I sat down with the sandwich. I picked up my book that was by my side and as I did I naturally tiled it slightly. As I tilted the book I heard a strange sound. The noise sounded like trickling water or the sound of wind rushing through my fingers. I turned the book fully vertical and suddenly the sound stopped. I tilted the book again and the sound came again, as if I was pouring water from the book.

"Schhhhhhhhhhhhh" was the sound. I pulled the book straight up.

As I continued to put the book vertically and horizontally the sound came on and off like a tap. As this was happening I was wondering whether I was hearing things but every time I turned the book the sound came back again.

For about ten minutes I was turning the book like a switch. But slowly and steadily the sound faded until I could no longer hear it anymore.

I put it down to tea.

I poured imaginary water from my book.

Genuinely True Story.

Such is life. Such is life.

Inspiration (2) The Writers Secret Weapon....... Writing Anything that Comes to Mind.

This post is linked with the previous post. I have been doing writing as per usual and I am trying to get stories from all over the place. Here is a new exercise to help out with the inspiration part of the writing world.

Has anyone heard of this exercise? This is a simple, strange exercise but very entertaining when you read through what you have written.

It's amazing what you might find with some sentences that come through random bursts while in free flow in writing. There is an exercise that is a fun way to get inspiration for stories and it on this post that I shall do this exercise. Here are the rules;

  • Think of a quick title from the top of your head.
  • You have three minutes to write the first thing that comes to your head, your first thoughts or words. You carry on until five or so minutes have past and then you stop and review what you have written.
  • You cannot hesitate.
  • It doesn't matter what you write, no matter how weird it may be... just write it anyway.
  • Try not to pause, just carry on writing until you have to stop permanently.
  • Be inspired by the magnificent weirdness.

Title: The Wellington Wilt Worm.

The Piece: "Surfacing from the earth the serpentine sepulchre spoke the words of cold sand throughout the well of eternal thought. When did you speak of the fire and why did not you quench yourself in them. It came to you from the birth of man so why not make the toast. Drink the tea when the moon is nigh you scandalous curmgeon and roar at them for the thoughts of calm you now for dough. When the mater head wake the grey earthern tide for whatever you did is nothing for the welcoming timeline. Shut up with your jibber- jabber and thoughts of unutterable wishing walk, you ate all the pies and so you must go to it with a stupor. Don't bring the wafer in the water I'll watch the dream of this life. This is your flip, hope it's good and all and ah it won't be a shower any time soon so sit down. And another thing that I wish to say is when I was wafted into birth you were not looking round for the sparrows like you should have eaten god damn it. How you you can't aim your food in your mouth like old grannies. Come on now son, get a gate. Shall you not make it tonight the moon dogs cannot see the thirst and you know what that should get you in after. Stop worrying and yes I will spin around tonight and yes that does mean a drill. Kaboom. Gong the counter you oaf. Spagetti mutton, the medieval Italian won't stand for this any more and don't you forget it. Same as me. You like swing the cold pepper henceforth but keep typing or it is going to explode. Hush ya mouth Earl Grey and become like the men of the thousands of people that won't get me on the shoulder because the world keeps spinning around. When will this end and why this eternal bleating from the black bits of space. La law shall make me wanna go this way in this speedboat with the hot dog. Nee nah and a thousand films.Come on over and come on over now. Hear all about it, hear all about it and don't you fillet it forever and then this can be and you're a glass because the strings isn't ready yet."

Review of Piece: It doesn't make much sense as was expected. It was actually quite fun to write because I was just letting my mind flow. I'm not sure if I can make it into any sort of story. Maybe if I take small parts out I can use those small bits of inspiration. The above piece of writing is only a starter but a good exercise. I'll see what I can do with the above.

Inspiration (1) Records of Dreaming for Inspiration.

For about a week I have been making it my business to remember all of the dreams that I have had in order to write them down. It has been said by Mr Loadsofpeople that dreams are a great inspiration for stories. Hence I recorded down my dreams.

Come hither and read some of the stuff that has been happening in my mind while I sleep... if you want.

  • Earlier this week I was visiting my friend Dave. I slept on his sofa for the night as I usually do when I visit and this was my dream: "I dreamt that I was in the same place that I was, sitting on the same sofa, in the same room I was actually sleeping. I was sitting down. I was using a kindle (maybe because I picked one up recently) and I knew that what I was reading was about some sort of world war that was going to happen but hadn't happened yet. A child sat on the sofa and asked what I was doing. I showed him/her the document and we read about the future war together. I went to the kitchen to get a glass of water and for some reason knew that if I threw the glass of water over my head, it would mean that I could fly. I went out into the garden and threw the water over me and flew into the sky. I must have been flying around for a bit but I landed back in the garden and went back inside the house. The child was still there. She smiled then some person fell downstairs because their trousers had fallen down...which was a good slapstick moment of the dream."
  • I was at home when this dream happened. "I was meeting someone in a shop. In the shop was a rectangular table and two chairs. I was sitting on one of the chairs waiting for someone. The person that came was a man in his mid thirties with rectangular glasses and he instantly sat down and crossed his legs. I knew just from looking at him that he did not look like that and that he was not really a man in his mid thirties with glasses. What he really looked like didn't have any form but I didn't say anything. We talked together for a while but when I was about to leave he asked if he could hug me. I hugged him but as we pushed together we became this one massive blob and all I could see in my vision was my face with lots of different coloured lights shining on it. I then turned and saw a man looking at me, looking angry, shaking his head and folding his arms and it annoyed me that he was angry because his sister (who was called something strange) wouldn't allow him to do what he was doing."
  • The dream I had last night: "I was watching a television. From what I remember on the screen was a raging sea (similar to the sea that you might see on one of the BBC 2 title screens...but without the BBC 2 bit) and two people standing on a massive rock in the sea. On the bottom right of the screen was a digital clock type thing that you might see while you watched the BBC News. As I watched the scene on the screen I looked at the time on the clock every so often. I knew it was early in the morning in my dream. The time came for me to look at the clock again but when I did it had turned to the afternoon on the 24 hour digital clock (16:00 for example) ... and that freaked me out because I knew that it was the morning in my dream." As I became freaked out I suddenly woke up because someone made a noise near my room.
I couldn't remember any other of my dreams, or I could remember some of them but it was so confusing and confounding that I found it hard to recall it. I have some other dreams under the bag and I'll record a few more then stop.

I wish to write some bizarre literature, perhaps from some more dreams that I will get in the future. Bizarre, bizarre world of dreams. Crazy world of the mind.

J.B Lenoir.

My mate Munchy and I both listen to music and jam together for fun as well as messing around and doing whatever activity. One of the many musical genre's that we like are blues music. When I was in Derby ages ago I went into a shop and saw a 7 DVD set of films directed by well known film directors and organised by Martin Scorsesse. I thought that I would buy it, watch them all and give them as a Christmas present to Munchy. I got as far as the first two films and then gave it to Munchy but between starting to watch the films and finishing watching the films I was introduced to a new blues artist called J.B Lenoir (pronounced Len-or). The first thing that made me like him was because he acted in this manner on an old recording...

After watching this film the first thing I thought was,
"What a pleasant sounding fellah. Hey J.B, do you want to be my mate?"

He wrote a lot of songs, one of them protesting the Vietnam War and wore funky clothes while he was performing. He was lurking around but I found him and his music decades after he died.

Here is the song 'I Feel So Good.'

Pretty good to be honest. Just his voice and his guitar was all he needed.

It's always nice when you are searching around for those little gems in the mass of culture out there and you actually find someone of this quality in the data banks of technology and memory.

Happy near- to- Christmas anyone who read this post.

My Memorising Ambitions.

I have wanted to learn an Edgar Allan Poe poem for a long time and for some reason one Sunday afternoon I sat down with his collected works with Leadbelly in the background and began learning. As of the writing of this post I can recite three of the stanza's.

Oh don't I sound right cultured.

I WILL be the next Vincent Price.

Have you ever had the realisation that you have memorised speeches without even knowing that you have? That has happened to me. Here are the speeches that I know through just through listening to things a few times,

  • Two Agent Smith speeches... and a bit of another one.
  • The Russell Edginton speech in True Blood in front of the news cameras.
  • The Al Pacino Speech from The Devils Advocate.
You just wake up one day and realise you can say the whole dialogue for some reason.

Anyway the day will come that I will be reciting the Raven to an audience... perhaps dressed in 19th century clothes like old Pricey or Chris Lee.
